LUDHIANA: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister and local MP Manish Tewari today expressed serious concern over the growing lawlessness in Ludhiana. He said, the issue was more serious since this was being done on the eve of parliamentary elections and by the people who have direct association with the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.

In a strongly worded statement issued here today, Tewari said, this was the outright failure of the administration, particularly the police which had first failed to prevent such incidents and later been unable to take any action against the culprits.

The Ludhiana MP said, the incidents of the last two days, first the exchange of gunfire at Sarabha Nagar among the youth Akali workers in which over 200 rounds were fired leading to injury to several people and next day the attack on the Gurdwara office bearer in Model Gram, again by the Akali workers had led to a sense of fear and terror among the people.

“Given the alarming regularity with which such incidents are happening or are made to happen only indicates to one thing that the local police at the behest of the ruling party is trying to create a sense of fear and insecurity among the people”, the union minister said, while asking, “otherwise how is it possible that such incidents are taking place and the culprits are allowed to go scotfree”.
