Two SAD leaders questioned by ED in drug racket

JALANDHAR:  Two senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders, Punjab's Chief Parliamentary Secretary Avinash Chander and former Jail Minister MLA from Kartarpur Swaran Singh Phillaur are in dock following Enforcement Directorate today questioned both of them in Rs.6000 crore drug racket.

Jail Minister Swaran Singh Phillaur was forced to resign from cabinet when name of his son Damanbir Singh surfaced in the drug racket. He was summoned by the ED leading to resignation by Phillaur. He was first minister in Badal cabinet who had to resign in a drug related case. Today Phillaur appeared before Enforcement Directorate officials alongwith his son.

The names of Phillaur and Avinash Chander came to limelight after their names were found in the diary of Goraya based businessman Chuni Lal Gaba. They were summoned under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act(PMLA). The records show that Akali leaders had received money fron Gaba who is linked to drug racket. An amount of Rs.48 lakhs was entered in the name of Avinash Chander.

Chaudhary Santokh Singh Congress MP from Jalandhar whose name also figured in the dairy would be questioned on October 17, the sources said.
