AMRITSAR: A meeting of different Chambers of Commerce and Industry held in the ongoing the five day State event PHD- Punjab International Trade Expo, PHD-PITEX, 2014 being held at Amritsar.

Meeting was attended by representatives of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sargodha Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Jhelum Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Lots of issues were discussed for smooth bilateral trade between India and Pakistan especially through Wagah Land route as well as Attari Railway route. In the 9th edition of PITEX at Amritsar it was observed that in spite of lot of efforts of chambers from both countries, nothing concrete could come out from both sides and trade is facing lot of problems for smooth bilateral trade.

The representatives of Chambers from both the countries present on the occasion decided to pass a resolution and submit the signed copies of the resolution to Governments of both the countries at appropriate levels.

They resolved to press for a common Business Park on the Wagah border(with in ICP complex) where the industrialists of both the countries can showcase their products and have short meetings and strike trade deals. No visa should be required for such meetings and ID proof should be sufficient.

The representatives resolved to request and pursue with the respective governments for Business visas to be made available on the recommendation of a recognized Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Business visas so issued are multi-visas (valid for one year), multi-city and non-reporting.

It was decided to request respective governments to open Bank branches in each other’s countries and also at ICP so that there is no problem in making the transactions. Local currency with monthly adjustments should be made possible so that trade should not be affected due to US dollar fluctuation.

To request the respective governments that there should be no restriction on the number of trade items at Wagah/Attari borders and all items which can be transacted through sea route should be allowed on this land route also.
