Gurbani gives lot of stress on protecting environment: Dr.Susan Prill

AMRITSAR: Professor of Religion at Juniata College, Pennysylvania, USA, Dr. Susan Prill who have studied Sikhism from the environment point of view today stated that `Gurbani’ gives a lot of stress on the `protection of environment’. She said cleanliness and protecting the surroundings by keeping those neat and green is basic to the Sikh philosophy.

Dr.Prill was speaking at the seminar organized by EcoSikh, a US based environment awareness NGO, at Khalsa College of Education (Ranjit Avenue) here today. She narrated the references from the Gurbani and said when she read the religious scriptures Sri Guru Granth Sahib from environment angle she was astonished how the Sikh masters were concerned about the protection of environment.

She along with Gunbir Singh, finance secretary of Khalsa College Governing Council and head of Local Chapter of EcoSikh and her associate Travis also enthusiastically performed `Sewa’(volunteer service) and participated in night sanitation with Sangat (devotees) at Baba Kulwant Singh Ji Dera here. She also coined the word "Green Gurbani" during the seminar and said her lecture was part of the series of illustrating the Sikh Environmental Thought (SED).

The second in the series of the lecture will be delivered at Pittsburg Gurudwara Sahib. She has also shared that she will share the possibility of others in her network celebrate the SED 2014. Gunbir Singh, College Principal Dr.Surinder Kaur Dhillon and EcoSikh representative Tarunpreep Singh Ghuman honoured Dr.Prill on the occasion.
