Teej festival celebrated at Haryana Raj Bhawan

CHANDIGARH: The prominent traditional festival of Haryana, “Teej”, was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal at Haryana Raj Bhawan, here today.

While greeting the people on this occasion, the Governor of Haryana and Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh,UT , Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki wished the people that the festival would usher in more prosperity, progress, happiness and good health in their lives.

A number of prominent persons including Lady Governor Mrs. Rani Solanki, Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal, Education Minister Mr Ram Bilas Sharma, Chief Secretary, Mr D.S. Dhesi were present on the occasion.

The colourful festival of Teej was a special attraction, especially for the women and children as a number of stalls of bangles and balloons were put up on the occasion. Colourful swings were also another attraction for the participants who were giving a joy ride on this occasion.

The audience was regaled by the artistes who presented a number of cultural items projecting the history, culture and life of the people of Haryana and adjoining states. This variety cultural programme specifically highlighted the cordial relations between the bride and her mother-in-law. Tasteful cuisine including seasonal sweets were also enjoyed by the visitors.

The Governor announced a reward of Rs. two lakhs and fifty thousand for the participating artistes of cultural programme.

The variety cultural programme included Haryanvi Sawan folk dances Savan Ki Laur, Ghumar and Khodia based on Teej folk songs that are often sung by the young women of Haryana, Bhavai folk dance of Rajasthan, Garba of Gujarat, folk songs based on Savan of Madhya Pradesh and Dhola of Punjab.
